Bitcoin Volumes Surge in Hong Kong amidst Unrest

For any nation facing uncertain times, Bitcoin is fast emerging as a safe haven. According to a new report by The Block, P2P exchange LocalBitcoins recorded its third-highest Bitcoin volume at 172.8 BTC (~1.42 million) in the last one week.

The highest recorded BTC volume was of course at the peak of the bull market in December 2017, where $1.53 million worth Bitcoin were traded.

Hong Kong has been witnessing a lot of unrest, as protestors have been opposing the influence of China in their domestic affairs, including a bill that would have allowed the extradition of criminals to China. The tensions reached a high yesterday after a teenage protestor was shot by the Hong Kong police, even as China celebrated 70 years of communist rule.
