BitTorrent, the leading protocol for P2P file sharing, is all set to launch its own BitTorrent Token (BTT) on the Tron network. Tron had acquired BitTorrent last year and it was expected that Tron’s technology will add further capabilities to BitTorrent. The company wants users to pay for more bandwidth and secure faster downloads through the new BTT token.
According to the BitTorrent Token whitepaper, the new token will conform to the TRC-10 token standard with a total supply of 990 billion BTT which will be minted. Initially, the token will be available on Binance Launchpad, a new service that allows entrepreneurs to raise capital through token sales. The tokens may be also be distributed through airdrops.
The token will be implemented first on the µTorrent Classic client, the company’s most popular application. Project Atlas (Tron and BitTorrent’s integration) will be backward-compatible for the users who don’t want to deal in BTT and want to use the old system for sharing files. More details are expected to be revealed at the Nitron Summit 2019 to be held in the US later this month.
